max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n<p>I don&#8217;t know who needs to hear this right now&nbsp;\u2014 perhaps it\u2019s more the decision-makers at the top of news organizations than the journalists on the ground \u2014 but good work takes time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core href=\"https:\/\/niemanstoryboard.org\/2025\/12\/04\/photojournalist-stephanie-keith-documenting-ice-new-york-magazine-cover\/\">This week&#8217;s Nieman Storyboard podcast guest<\/a>, photojournalist Stephanie Keith, didn\u2019t have a paid assignment when she started showing up with her camera to the corridors of the immigration courts at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-classic mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-paragraph mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n<p>During the following months, she documented the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as they detained undocumented immigrants outside of their court hearings, and in many cases separated them from their families and loved ones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-classic mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-paragraph mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n<p>Embarking on a job without any guarantee of getting paid at the end is a risk she acknowledges not everyone is able to take, but New York magazine eventually picked up her work and <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/article\/26-federal-plaza-nyc-immigration-court-ice-agents-detainments-deportations.html?ueid=19f62880113934b262c0bbb597644adb&amp;utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=OGS%20-%20Oct%2020%2C%202025&amp;utm_term=Subscription%20List%20-%20One%20Great%20Story\">published one of the year\u2019s most powerful cover images<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-classic mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-paragraph mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/niemanstoryboard.org\/2025\/12\/04\/photojournalist-stephanie-keith-documenting-ice-new-york-magazine-cover\/\">On this week\u2019s podcast<\/a>, Keith talks about photojournalism&#8217;s essential role in telling true stories, and how she approaches photography and video in this era of viral moments. Like Occupy Wall Street \u2014 I went down to Zuccotti Park every single day for months. At Standing Rock, I lived in North Dakota for six weeks straight. And for Federal Plaza I went down almost every day for like four months. So I think it\u2019s the \u2018all-in\u2019 aspect that really produces results. You learn all about the people. You get into a rhythm, and it\u2019s not something that you can just drop in and out of.<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n    \n    <div class=\"  core-block\">\n        <div class=\"block block--core block--core-paragraph mb-5   max-w-screen-full mx-auto\">\n            \n<p>\u201cYou have to do this continuous coverage to get good results. So I think if you are really into a project, don\u2019t let any naysayers hold you back.
